Your monthly installment amount is an advance payment toward your energy costs. You can see whether you will ultimately get money back or need to pay extra on your annual statement. Want to know how you’re doing in the meantime? You can make your own estimate in the NextEnergy app.
How do I check this in the app?
- Open the NextEnergy app and log in.
- View your costs per month or year and add up the costs for the past few months.
- View your invoices and add up the monthly installment amounts you actually paid for those same months.
- Compare the total of your costs with the total of your paid installment amounts.
Always compare the same period: starting from your last annual statement, or from the start of your energy supply if you have not yet received an annual statement. Only include paid monthly installment invoices, not outstanding invoices or previous annual statements.
What does the difference mean?
- Have you paid more than your costs so far? Then, at that point, you have prepaid an amount that your costs have not yet used.
- Are your costs higher than what you have paid? Then your paid advance payments do not yet cover your costs so far. If this is still the case at the end of your billing period, you will need to pay extra.
This comparison is an interim estimate. Your costs may change during the remaining months. For example, you often use more energy in winter than in summer. Therefore, having paid more than your costs so far does not automatically mean that you will get the difference back.
When will I know if I will get money back?
You receive an annual statement once a year. On this statement, we reconcile your energy costs for the entire billing period with your paid installment amounts. The annual statement shows whether you will get money back or need to pay extra, and how much.
