Adjusting your monthly advance amount in the NextEnergy app
You can easily adjust your installment amount (advance payment) yourself in the NextEnergy app. This way, you keep control over your monthly energy costs and avoid surprises on your annual statement.
How to adjust your installment amount
- Open the NextEnergy app.
- Go to Profile.
- Tap on Advance Amount.
- Choose the desired monthly amount and confirm your change.
The app also shows a personalized recommended amount. This is an indication based on your consumption and helps you to match your monthly amount as closely as possible to the expected costs.
How is the recommended amount calculated?
The recommendation is based on:
- your actual energy consumption so far;
- seasonal influences;
- the expected energy costs for the remainder of the contract year.
The recommendation is an indication and not a guarantee.
Do you have solar panels and feed a lot of electricity back? Then the recommendation may be less accurate for your situation. In that case, please contact our customer service for personalized advice.
Is a lower advance amount advisable?
It can be tempting to lower your monhtly advance amount, for example in the summer when you use less energy. However, this is not always wise.
Your monthly advance amount is based on your expected annual consumption. Because you often use more energy in the winter, you are essentially prepaying part of those higher costs in the summer. If you lower your monhtly advance amount without a structural decrease in consumption, there is a greater chance you will have to pay extra at the annual settlement.
A lower monthly advance amount is mainly advisable if your energy consumption changes permanently, for example because you:
- have installed solar panels;
- have installed a heat pump;
- have moved;
- or otherwise use structurally less energy.
Can I choose any amount?
You can adjust your monthly advance amount within the options available in the app. If you want a lower amount than the app allows, type 'adjust advance amount' in our chat. Our customer service will gladly assist you and help you choose a suitable advance payment amount.
