Have you received an email stating that your monthly advance amount has been increased or adjusted? We have recalculated whether your current monthly amount still sufficiently matches your expected energy costs.
We do this to prevent any surprises on your annual statement at the end of the year.
Why do you adjust my monthly advance amount?
Your installment amount is an advance payment on your expected energy costs. That’s why we regularly check if the amount still fits your situation.
There are two occasions when we may adjust your installment amount:
After your annual statement
After preparing your annual statement, we review your actual energy consumption from the past year. If it turns out that your consumption is consistently higher or lower than previously expected, we adjust your monthly advance amount to better align with your future energy costs.
This reduces the chance of a large additional payment or unexpectedly high refund on your next annual statement.
Based on trends in your energy consumption
In our calculation, we consider, among other things:
- Your historical and recent energy consumption according to the grid operator
- Your expected consumption until the annual statement
- The current energy prices
- Any shortages or surpluses that have occurred during the contract year
If it appears that your current monthly advance amount is likely insufficient to cover your expected costs, we can adjust it automatically.
Good to know: NextEnergy is not obligated to adjust your monthly advance amount mid-term. We consciously choose to do so when we expect your monthly advance amount no longer aligns with your consumption. This way, we try to prevent you from facing an unexpected additional payment on your annual statement.
How is the new monthly advance amount calculated?
We analyze your consumption over the past months and estimate your total consumption until your next annual statement.
In doing so, we take into account:
- Your personal consumption history
- Expected seasonal influences
- The current energy prices
- Any previous differences between paid advances and actual costs
Based on this, we determine the monthly advance amount needed to cover your expected energy costs.
If a shortage occurred in previous months, this can be included in the new calculation. This prevents the amount from appearing all at once on the annual statement.
Why has my monthly advance amount changed even though my consumption hasn’t?
A higher monthly advance amount doesn’t always mean you are using more energy.
An increase can, for example, be due to:
- Changes in energy prices
- A previous shortage that needs to be compensated
- Expectations of higher future consumption, for example due to seasonal influences
As a result, your monthly advance amountmay rise even though your current consumption is comparable to earlier periods.
What if my situation is different?
Although we take your personal consumption into account as much as possible, there may be circumstances that are not fully reflected in the consumption data.
For example:
- You have solar panels
- You don’t use gas
- You have a heat pump or air conditioning
- You heat a swimming pool
- Your family situation has changed
- Your energy consumption has recently changed significantly
Because of this, the proposed monthly advance amount may sometimes fit your actual situation less well, especially if it has recently changed due to one of the factors above.
Keep track of your costs yourself
Through the NextEnergy app, you can always keep track of your energy consumption and costs.
In the app, you can see, among other things:
- Your current consumption
- The energy costs you have incurred so far
- How your incurred costs compare to your payments
This way, you can assess yourself whether your monthly advance amount still fits your situation and whether an adjustment is desirable.
Can I adjust my installment amount myself?
Yes. The email you received from us contains a link that allows you to adjust your monthly advance amount.
Keep in mind that a lower monthly advance amount may lead to an additional payment on your annual statement if your actual consumption turns out to be higher than expected.
Our advice is based on the data we have, but of course, you know your own situation best. That’s why you can always decide which installment amount best fits your situation.
Changes via the app are also possible:
Open the NextEnergy app.
- Click the profile icon in the top right corner to go to your profile page.
- Go to the 'Finances' tab.
- Adjust your installment amount here to your desired amount.
Do you think the amount is incorrect?
If so, please reply to the email you received or contact us. We are happy to review your personal situation with you and assess whether an adjustment is necessary.
