In this article, you will learn how to connect your home battery in the Next Energy app. Note that this article does not apply to the plug-in battery. Currently, you can connect home batteries from the brands FoxESS, Hyxi, and AlphaESS yourself.
We also support control of brands such as Zinvolt, KSTAR, SigEnergy, Growatt, Hoymiles, and Enphase. To register these brands, you need to contact our customer support.
Good to know: you can only connect one battery type at a time in the app. So you can have either a home battery or a plug-in battery active. If you already have a plug-in battery connected, you will not see the Home Battery option in the app.
Additionally, your energy contract must be active and include electricity before you can connect a home battery.
Connecting Your Home Battery
Step 1: Open the home battery onboarding
The customer logs into the Next Energy app and then navigates via Devices to Home Battery.
When starting the onboarding, the customer first sees the terms and conditions for reading and controlling the battery. These terms must be accepted before the flow can continue.
Step 2: Choose your battery brand
Next, choose whether you want to activate the battery yourself in the app or do this with help from NextEnergy.
Then you will see an overview of the battery brands we support. If your brand is not listed, you cannot connect your battery directly via the app. In that case, please contact our Customer Support. They can assist you with the connection if we can control the battery.
FoxESS is already listed here, but it is currently not possible to register it yourself. You can register the battery through our customer support.
Step 3: Enter the installation details
Enter the details of your home battery.
First, select the correct model, including the capacity and power of the battery. This field is required.
If the power of the battery is not listed, you will need to contact Next to have it added.
Then select the installation partner. Once you enter at least three letters, suggestions will appear. If you do not know which installer installed your battery, choose Unknown.
Step 4: Start the connection
After entering the battery details, click Log in with [brand].
Then you will see that the connection is being prepared in the background.
Step 5 (consists of 2 options):
There are 2 options for connecting your battery depending on your brand.
batteries via authentication:
• AlphaESS
• FoxESS
Batteries via serial numbers:
• Hyxi
We also offer the following brands, but you cannot (yet) onboard them yourself. For these brands, you can register the battery through our customer service:
• Enphase
• Growatt
• Hoymiles
• Zinvolt
• Sigenergy
• KSTAR
Step 5.A: Authentication via portal
Enter the correct username and password, and complete any authentication steps required by the provider (this can vary by brand).
The authentication screen for the selected brand is currently launched from within the app.
You do not need to open the battery app manually.
When login is successful, you will be redirected back to the NextEnergy app.
Step 5.B: Enter the serial numbers
Enter the serial number and the parent serial number of your battery. Both fields are required. Without this information, the battery cannot be connected.
Below the input fields, you will find links explaining where to find these serial numbers.
Step 6: Select your battery
After verifying the serial numbers, the app displays the batteries found under Connected Batteries.
Select the correct battery to complete the connection. Even with this connection method, you can select only one battery at a time.
Step 7: Complete the connection
Your battery is now successfully connected.
From this screen, you can go directly to your battery insights or set a control mode. You can also adjust the control mode later via the technical details of your home battery in the Devices menu.
Having trouble connecting?
If you get stuck during the connection process or see an error message, please restart the connection.
Do this as follows:
- Close the onboarding completely.
- Close the Next Energy app entirely.
- Reopen the app.
- Start the connection of your home battery again.
If the problem persists, please contact our Customer Support.
