In this article, we explain step-by-step how to install the P1 meter in the NextEnergy app, including screenshots of each screen. Because we visually support all steps, the article has become a bit longer. Therefore, use the links below to go directly to the topic you have questions about.
Step 0: Add a device to the NextEnergy app
Step 1: Check if you have everything
Step 3: Check if you see the blue light
Step 5: Connect to your Wi-Fi network
Step 6: Your P1 meter is connected!
Step 7: Insight into your consumption
Step 0: Add a device to the NextEnergy app
In our app, we have created a screen called “devices,” where you have the option to connect new devices via the green button.
Choose which type of device this is;
- P1 meter
- Plug-in battery
- Car
Step 1: Check if you have everything
It is important for us to know if everything is at home to get started. This way, we can ensure whether the P1 meter should work.
Check if you have the following items:
- An outlet near the meter cabinet
- The password of your Wi-Fi network
- Bluetooth is enabled on your phone
Once you have checked everything on the list, the button will turn green to proceed.
Step 2: Connect to your smart meter
- Plug the P1 meter into the power outlet
The P1 meter usually needs power to ensure it works. That is why we provide an adapter and a cable with the P1 meter.
- Connect the P1 meter to the P1 port of your smart meter
This port is often covered to prevent dirt from entering; in most cases, this port is located at the top right or bottom left of your smart meter. Check that the connection is properly inserted.
Step 3: Check if you see the blue light
The blue light is a status indicator showing that everything is running as it should.
Don't see a blue light? That can happen too; you might see a different color. Here you will find an explanation of what each color means. The following statuses are possible:
- Blue/green blinking: no data is coming in from the smart meter → Reposition the dongle.
- Red (blinking): There is a power issue → Reset the dongle and unplug the adapter from the outlet and plug it back in.
- Red/green blinking: The server is unreachable → Wait a few minutes. If this persists, please contact us.
- Orange: firmware update in progress → wait 5 minutes.
Once the P1 meter gains access to Wi-Fi, it will automatically look for a firmware (software) update. If an update is available, it will perform it immediately. This can take a few moments.
Step 4: Connect via Bluetooth
This is the next step to share the Wi-Fi credentials with the P1 meter.
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that you stay within 2 meters of the P1 meter. This ensures the P1 meter is within your Bluetooth range.
Step 5: Connect to your Wi-Fi network
To ensure the P1 meter can transmit the consumption data it reads, it must gain access to your home's Wi-Fi network.
Tip: Do you have a QR code to share the password? Click the button to the left of the password field to scan it.
Step 6: Your P1 meter is connected!
You should see a green light on the P1 meter. This means it is connected to your network and consumption data can be read.
Don't see the green light immediately? Don’t worry; this can take up to 30 seconds.
Is the light on your P1 meter orange instead of green?
Once the P1 meter gains access to Wi-Fi, it will automatically look for a firmware (software) update. If an update is available, it will perform it immediately. This can take a few moments.
Step 7: Insight into your consumption
From this moment, you should have insight into your consumption! This way, you have everything you need to save on your energy bill, as you know exactly which devices in your home consume a lot of energy and which do not.
This means you have received a celebratory screen and can start using the P1 meter. If you have questions about using the P1 meter, you can find more information via this link.
